A Man of Few Words

Lwin Moe, a seventh-grade student at Lutheran South Unity School in Fort Wayne, Ind., is a young man of few words, except when he is spelling.

The son of Burmese refugees, Moe qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee by winning The Journal Gazette Regional Spelling Bee in March to represent northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. His father thinks he may be the first Burmese-American to make it to the national competition.
